Quartzite

Quartzite Countertops: Pros and Cons

Quartzite is a gorgeous countertop material and one that is comparable to quartz, granite, and marble in attractiveness and performance. If you like the look of marble and quartz, but want the durability and performance characteristics of granite, quartzite is the perfect mix. If you’re thinking about incorporating this unique and beautiful countertop option for your kitchen or bath, here are the pros and cons for your consideration.

Pros Cons
  • Quartzite has a beautiful, marble-like appearance, but is much easier to maintain
  • While a similar look to marble, quartzite comes in at a more affordable price point
  • Quartzite also has a similar appearance to quartz, but as a natural stone has more unique features
  • This stone is a hard, durable material that won’t wear down easily
  • Quartzite is a natural stone, so each piece is unique
  • This stone has easy maintenance: just wash with soap and warm water, no specialty products necessary
  • Quartzite is highly resistant to UV rays, which makes it a good option for rooms with a lot of direct sunlight or outdoor kitchens
  • This stone is available in white, gray, and even pinks and reds
  • Quartzite is actually harder than granite
  • Quartzite is not highly scratch-resistant, and sharp objects will mark the surface
  • There are limited color options for quartzite countertops due to the fact that it’s a natural stone
  • Quartzite countertops are porous (though this is limited by sealing) and so spills must be cleaned up promptly to prevent staining
  • Quartzite countertops require regular sealing. Depending on the variety, your quartzite countertop may need sealing more often.
  • Hot pans and other objects should not be placed directly on the surface. Use a trivet or potholder to protect it from damage.
