Countertop Removal

Should You Replace Your Countertops?

New countertops can be an investment. An investment of time, money, and energy. You have to pick out the right ones, measure for them, tear out the old olds, and get the new ones installed—plus, pay for them. All that considered, it can be hard to know when’s the right time to get new countertops. Here are a few instances when you should replace your countertops.

You’re Remodeling Your Kitchen

This is kind of obvious, but if you’re renovating your kitchen, you should get new countertops. Chances are that you’re changing it for a reason, and new countertops can contribute to the updated look and function of your kitchen. Plus, if you’re getting new cabinetry, your old countertops might not fit the new cabinets. It’s not easy to perfectly match your old countertops and patch on the new to your added counter space. The old design, color, or pattern of countertop material, whether natural or manmade, may no longer be available.

They’re Out of Style

Nothing dates a room like permanent fixtures from decades ago. Even if the rest of your kitchen is modern and chic, with new, stainless steel appliances and a big farmhouse sink, if your countertops are totally 80s, the whole room is going to look dated or unbalanced.

You’re Getting a New Sink

Some types of countertops are sealed or fitted to a specific sink, and if you’re replacing your sink, your new one might not fit correctly with your old counters.

They’re Broken or Chipped Beyond Repair

It is possible to repair cracks or chips in countertops, depending on the material, but some damage is too severe to repair. If you have a big crack or a huge chunk missing from your countertop, the integrity of the countertop can be compromised, weakening the material and trapping bacteria and stains.

You’re Selling Your House

Old, ugly, or dated countertops can make your kitchen unattractive to potential buyers, and a good kitchen is a major selling feature. New countertops can make your kitchen appeal to buyers, especially when they know that if they buy the house, they won’t have to shell out for replacing the counters themselves.
